AftercompletinghisA-levels,PrinceWilliamtookagapyear,duringwhichhetraveledtoChile,Belize,andAfrica.Itwasduringthistimethathedevelopedastronginterestinconservationandenvironmentalissues,whichwouldcometoshapehisfutureroleasapublicfigure.In2001,heenrolledattheUniversityofStAndrews,wherehestudiedarthistoryandmethisfuturewife,CatherineMiddleton.
PhilanthropyandAdvocacy
Asamemberoftheroyalfamily,PrinceWilliamhasusedhispositiontoraiseawarenessandsupportforarangeofcauses.In2005,heco-foundedthecharitySentebale,whichsupportsyoungpeopleaffectedbyHIVinLesotho,Botswana,andMalawi.Hehasalsobeenanadvocateformentalhealthawareness,foundingthementalhealthinitiative\"HeadsTogether\"alongsidehisbrother,PrinceHarry,andhissister-in-law,MeghanMarkle.
