Join the Lantern Festival Celebrations
The Lantern Festival, also known as Yuanxiao Festival, is one of the most important festivals in China. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month, which falls on February 26th, 2021. It marks the end of the Spring Festival and symbolizes the reunion of family and friends. This year, we invite you to join the Lantern Festival celebrations in our city.
History and Customs
The Lantern Festival has a long history dating back to the Han Dynasty. The custom of hanging and carrying lanterns on this day started during the Tang Dynasty. Today, lanterns come in all shapes and sizes and are decorated with colorful patterns and characters from Chinese folktales. Besides admiring the lanterns, other popular customs include eating glutinous rice balls (yuanxiao), solving riddles written on lanterns, and performing dragon dances.
Activities in Our City
Our city has planned a series of Lantern Festival activities for you to enjoy. The main event will be held at the city center square, where a giant lantern display will be set up. You can also participate in a lantern-making workshop, taste traditional Chinese snacks and drinks, and watch lion dances and dragon dances. The local temple fair is another highlight of the festival, featuring folk performances, handicrafts, and local delicacies. Don't miss the chance to experience the festive atmosphere and learn more about Chinese culture.
