VaccinationDriveslowtotakeeffect
TheIndiangovernmenthaslaunchedtheworld’slargestvaccinationprogramtofightthepandemic,withanaimtocoverover1.3billionpeopleacrossthecountry.Inthefirstphase,healthcareworkersandfrontlineworkerswerethetargetrecipientsofthevaccine.Inthesecondphase,thevaccinationdrivewasopenedforthoseagedabove60yearsandthoseagedbetween45-59yearswithunderlyingconditions.However,thevaccinationdrivehasbeenslowtotakeeffectasthedemandforvaccinesishighwhilethesuppliesremainscarce.Governmentofficialsandhealthexpertssuggestthatitwilltakelongertovaccinatetheentirepopulationwiththecurrentrateofvaccineproductionandthelimitedsuppliesofvaccine.
