Ohio - “The Buckeye State”
Ohio is a state in the midwestern part of the United States. It is bordered by Michigan to the north, Pennsylvania to the east, West Virginia to the southeast, Kentucky to the southwest, and Indiana to the west. The state capital of Ohio is Columbus, and it is the seventh most populous state in the country.
The Origin of “Ohio”
The name “Ohio” is derived from the Seneca word for “good river” or “great river.” The Seneca were a Native American tribe who lived in the area before European settlement. The Ohio River runs along the southern border of the state and is one of the major rivers in the United States, flowing 981 miles from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Cairo, Illinois.
